CODE FIRST GIRLS
INTRO TO WEB DEV
I joined the Code First Girls Introduction to Web Development intensive course to build a solid foundation in tech and push myself beyond SEO. Over the weeks, I learned the basics of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript and got the chance to put those skills into practice through several projects.
It was a great way to step into web development, work with others and see how much I enjoy creating things from scratch. The final project was a group task to create a functioning website using the skills we learnt, and then to present our projects to the class and the sponsors of our course, Capgemini.
We decided to create a website to advertise a festival, as we thought it would be a fun project to test our skills. I got to work on creating the home page and gallery, as well as making the home page mobile responsive. After a few weeks of late nights, tears, and nearly yeeting my laptop out the window on several occasions… I really couldn’t be more proud of what we achieved!
Lessons I learned:
– Team work makes the dream work
– Don’t always rely on ChatGPT (Led me astray too many times to count 😡)
– Bootstrap grids are currently the enemy but one day I shall conquer them
What I enjoyed:
– Literally all of it! I couldn’t recommend CFG more and I’m excited to be applying for more courses with them in the future
Incredibly proud to say out of hundreds of students, my team’s project won the final competition and we were awarded highly commended candidate certificates.
